Newport School District

Public Announcement - Newport Elementary School had a air unit malfunction this morning causing smoke to be pumped through the building. There was no fire, no smoke damage, and no lingering smoke, but the smell of smoke was very present and I made the decision to dismiss the elementary due to health concerns for some of our students and faculty. I felt as though we could not put the students and faculty back into the building until proper ventilation was in place and the smell had adequate time to dissipate. After conversing with elementary administration, I felt like it would be Monday before I could have students back in the building. I apologize for the inconvenience, but I would like to thank our staff, students, and parents for the pickup process being as smooth as one could hope for. I would also like to thank the Mayor, the fire department, and the police department for their help in this situation. A true team effort to dismiss around 700 kids unexpectedly in about an hour. Our transportation department and bus drivers are to be commended for their rapid response as well as our high school admin for jumping in and driving as well.

Attention NES Car Rider Parents: All car riders will be picked up in the front of the building

Attn Parents. Newport Elementary School will be dismissing immediately due to smoke in the building. We had a filter on an ERV unit malfunction and begin smoking heavily. There is no damage, but the smoke smell is too invasive to have students remain in the building. Car riders may be picked up at anytime and we are organizing drivers to get our bus riding students transported to their homes. This decision is in the best interest of all our students and faculty at NES.

Seniors meeting for Cap and Gown is happening this morning! Parents, check those backseats and floorboards of their cars for those packets this afternoon! $60 down payment, and they will be back on Monday for ordering.

🕖 Painting Times:

• 7:00 AM - 9:00 AM
• 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM

⚠️ Traffic Alert:

One side of Wilkerson Drive will be blocked at a time to keep traffic flowing safely.

Campus gates may be closed to allow the paint to dry.
