Newport School District will not be running buses next Friday, May 23rd.
Basketball tryouts will be tomorrow, May 14th @ 3:30pm in the Greyhound FH for 7th-9th grade girls🏀🏀🏀🏀
Dear Parents,
If your student will be entering 7th or 8th grade for the 2025–2026 school year, please join us for the CAP Conference tomorrow from 4:00 to 6:00 PM in the High School Cafeteria.
This is an important opportunity to discuss your student’s schedule for the upcoming school year.
The school calendar had time built in to cover missed days due to inclement weather through the year. However, this year we were forced to miss more time than was built in. The district is on a minutes calendar and must meet the time required by the state for in seat learning time. Due to our missed times , the district's last day for students will now be May 23rd . School will be dismissed at 12pm (noon) on that day. If we are forced to miss any further time in our normal calendar, this will have to be adjusted to account for that amount of missed time.

Newport Junior and Senior High Cheer Tryouts begin today!! Tryouts will begin at 4:00 today, tomorrow and Friday in the Greyhound Athletic Center!

Due to current conditions, bus drivers will use their discretion on all routes where standing or running water is present. If you live in an area where water is preventing access to school, please contact the office at your child’s campus.

Due to predicted weather forcast at the time we are loading buses the Newport School District will dismiss at 2:30pm this afternoon
We are watching the weather closely today and will make all necessary announcements as soon as information becomes available. We ask that you do not call the offices asking about early dismissal. The offices are made of aware of any decisions concerning dismissal at the moment the decision is made and we put that information out via social media and text at that time. Currently the threat appears to be after school hours, but that can change quickly. Please be on the lookout for announcements throughout the day. #HoundsStaySafe

It appears the incoming weather has been forecasted to reach us around 3pm. With rain and winds up to 30 mph. This is very concerning when considering travel for teachers, students, and buses. The chance for tornadoes looks to be a little later with a greater chance between 4 and 9 pm. To ensure the safety of all our staff and students, Newport School District will dismiss at 1pm today.
Please understand, should a tornado warning be issued at any time when students are on campus, they will not be released until the warning has been canceled. We take the well being and security of your children very seriously and want to ensure that they are safe when in our care.
The tornado shelter located on the high school campus behind the Freshman Academy will also be open this evening. The shelter located at 400 N. Pecan will be open as usual.
