Due to predicted weather forcast at the time we are loading buses the Newport School District will dismiss at 2:30pm this afternoon
We are watching the weather closely today and will make all necessary announcements as soon as information becomes available. We ask that you do not call the offices asking about early dismissal. The offices are made of aware of any decisions concerning dismissal at the moment the decision is made and we put that information out via social media and text at that time. Currently the threat appears to be after school hours, but that can change quickly. Please be on the lookout for announcements throughout the day. #HoundsStaySafe

It appears the incoming weather has been forecasted to reach us around 3pm. With rain and winds up to 30 mph. This is very concerning when considering travel for teachers, students, and buses. The chance for tornadoes looks to be a little later with a greater chance between 4 and 9 pm. To ensure the safety of all our staff and students, Newport School District will dismiss at 1pm today.
Please understand, should a tornado warning be issued at any time when students are on campus, they will not be released until the warning has been canceled. We take the well being and security of your children very seriously and want to ensure that they are safe when in our care.
The tornado shelter located on the high school campus behind the Freshman Academy will also be open this evening. The shelter located at 400 N. Pecan will be open as usual.
