Newport School District
Weather and School Schedule Update
February 3, 2026

Newport School District would like to address the recent winter weather events that have resulted in seven missed school days. Please know that throughout this time, district administrators have consistently monitored road conditions across our entire district. Each decision to cancel school has been made with the safety of our students, staff, and families as our top priority.

Today’s warmer temperatures have allowed for some melting; however, there are still several areas within our district where road conditions remain unsafe. Based on information gathered today, including travel throughout the district, Newport School District will open tomorrow, Wednesday, February 4th, at 10:00 a.m.  Faculty and Staff will report at normal times.

School buses will not run on snow-covered or ice-covered roads. We fully understand there are areas where travel conditions may still prevent students from attending school. If your child is unable to attend due to unsafe travel conditions, please contact your child’s school office tomorrow.

If there is any doubt about whether your child can safely reach the bus stop, or for students who drive themselves to school, we strongly encourage you to err on the side of caution. While we understand the importance of maintaining instructional time and minimizing disruptions to student learning, every decision has been made with significant safety concerns in mind.

Our maintenance teams have worked diligently to clear the majority of campus areas at both the elementary school and the high school. Students and staff are asked to use only cleared sidewalks and pathways when traveling on campus.

Due to the excessive number of missed school days, the district currently anticipates needing to make up 11 hours and 20 minutes of instructional time. A make-up schedule will be released at a later date.

We look forward to welcoming our students and staff back to school and appreciate your patience, understanding, and continued support. Most importantly, we encourage everyone to remain safe.

Respectfully,

Jon Bradley
Superintendent
Newport School District
