This morning at approximately 10:00 a.m., Newport High School administration was informed of a possible weapon on campus. Administration immediately took action and, with the assistance of our School Resource Officer, located the weapon. The student involved was taken into custody by the Newport Police Department, and the weapon was confiscated.

At no time were threats made toward students or staff, and the swift actions of our administration, School Resource Officers, and Newport Police Department ensured that this situation was quickly and safely resolved.

The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority. I would like to thank our faculty, administration, SROs, and the Newport Police Department for their immediate and professional response, which prevented this incident from escalating.
