Pack the Shack

NHS invited Jackson Co. High School to take part in a Pack The Shack Event today held on the high school campus at Newport. The event is sponsored by a Blue Cross Blue Shield grant with the purpose of packing sustainable meals to be distributed throughout the community.  Career and Technical students from both Newport and Jackson County worked together to pack 31,620 meals in just over 2 hours.  It was truly amazing to watch these students work together to complete such a worthy task.  The meals will be distributed to different agencies within the county. Groups that include:  Every Child Is Ours, Manna Pantry, UMC, ASUN, The Soup Kitchen, Meals on Wheels, Newport Elementary School, Tuckerman Elementary School, Swifton 1st Baptist

Thank you to Courtney Baker, Jenna Austin, and all of the other volunteers for being part of such a great event.  We would also like to thank Arkansas Steel for their donation, George Kell Motors for the water, Platinum Metal Works for the hamburgers and hotdogs, and Aramark for the pizza.  M&P brought their grill and Andy May and Donnie Washam cooked for all the participants.  Through donations, we were able to feed everyone that took part in the event.  We have a wonderful community and people in this county are always willing to come together for a good cause.

I would also like to thank Jackson Co. for agreeing to take part in this event because we were able to double the number of meals packed.
