What do you love about teaching at Newport?

I love teaching 5th grade in my hometown.  Many of the students I have taught over the years were children of my high school classmates and now I am teaching their grandchildren.  I love seeing parents, current students, and former students in the community.  Our community is very supportive of our school.  They are always there to help with the needs of the students and the teachers.  I love what I do and being able to do what I love in my hometown makes it even more special.  NES is home.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

My job is never boring.  Every class is different throughout the day even teaching the same subject.   I also get to work with a group of people that I love.  Several of my colleagues are friends from high school.   Having such wonderful colleagues makes the hard days easier. We have a great group of teachers and students at NES.  I love working with both.

What was your favorite memory from high school?

My favorite and scariest memory from high school would have to be the year I was on the drill team and we made it to the finals in football.  The drill team performed at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock and I was terrified. The stadium was huge and I was so nervous but the dance went well and we were all so excited.  We didn’t win that year but It was an experience I will never forget.  I loved everything about my time spent at NHS.
