Adult Education

Welcome to the Newport School District’s Adult Education webpage. This program offers classes in a variety of areas. These classes are offered for free, or at a reduced rate, to members of the Newport and Jackson County communities in an effort to increase the opportunities for learning.

Each class features a signup link to a small enrollment form. Some classes will be limited in size, so all classes are first come first served. Any charges are due on the evening of the class. Classes will be offered on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday nights from 6:00 to 7:30 or 6:00-9:00. The Adult Education classes are taught in the Newport High School Freshman Academy located next to the Newport School District Administration Offices on the high school campus. Parking is available in the lot immediately in front of the cafeteria.

Pizza, Pies, and Money Wise

Monday, November 29, 6-7:30

Tara Salinas
Vice President of Marketing
Merchants and Planters Bank

Come Join us for an evening of discussion on how to protect our money during the busy holiday season. Learn about;

  • Fraud Prevention You work hard for your money, but fraudsters are out there working hard to steal it from you.

  • Identity Theft - Learn how to keep your personal information private and out of the hands of scammers

  • Tactics and Tools that fraudsters use – Mail, email, social media, texts, and phone calls, fraudsters use them all and hope you’ll bite on at least one. Learn more and keep your guard up.

  • Common scams – By now everyone knows that a Prince in Nigeria isn’t going to give you money, but millions of Americans fall victim to expertly devised scams every day. We’ll discuss the ones we see most frequently so you’ll know when to be skeptical.

  • What to do if it happens to you – Sometimes all the preparation and prevention in the world can’t stop them. Recognizing it quickly, knowing what to do, and acting fast can help minimize the damage done by fraudsters.

Pizza will be from Fathead Pizza of Newport and Pies from the Downtown Pie Company from Newport.
